Recreating a metallic-like sound
Hi!
I recently tried to create a sound, which is a bit metallic, bit harsh sound. Here are some samples: http://members.chello.hu/szathy/eos.mp3 (RonskiSpeed-E.O.S - the little tweaking sound in the middle of the clip) http://members.chello.hu/szathy/alba.mp3 (Super8 - Alba) http://members.chello.hu/szathy/satellite.mp3 (Oceanlabs - Satellite) Am I right if I think that key is sync and good filtering? I tried already the one in Alba clip, which is a layered sound indeed. The upper one is similar to this: http://members.chello.hu/szathy/own.mp3 I made this with Nord3, its a synced white noise with HP filter, big resonance. Any suggestion how to move on? Thanx Szathy |
your trying too hard
its just saw wave mixed with some noise comb of lowpass and highpass some filter evelope settings and lfo modulating the highpass filter which makes him to open and close and i guess also automatic it manual using two fingers and twisting the knob :) oh yeah and maybe some distortion a more interesting sound will be to add a slave oscilator(adding another oscilator and syncing it to the first one...) semi tune it till it sounds right(it can never be offtune because its synced ofcouse) and using an lfo to modulate the slave osc tune massivly. hope this general directions will help out. cya,Tomer. |
i wouldnt even go that far...its not even that specific...all it is, is either a hipass filter with env turned up slightly with a low flt decay, no sustain, and no release...about 35% decay on the amp env....or hi env amt with a little higher decay with bandpass...you will also need to adjust the eq aswell...it doesnt need to be a saw wave, and you dont need modulation it will only help with the shaping...

I would add a little bit of FM Synthesis to give it a chromatic/metallic tuch. Also the internal chorus would do a great job.
