TRS connectors

Hi all,

I have begun re-wiring my home studio, making a fully balanced system and have come across something I dont quite know about.

I have soldered TS leads before, no problems, but with these new Neutrik 'Ningbo' series TRS connectors, they have this thin piece of tin that runs along the length of the sleeve, and joins between the tip and ring at the plug end of the connector.

What is this thin, tin/ribbon thing on my TRS connectors??? And what do I do with it???

Since I am needing to make these leads, I have simply removed the tin ribbon, and it seems to be working OK.

Thanks!!!

Jason

Nobody?

Im thinking it has something to do with isolating the ground from the tip? But it really does get in the way when trying to tin the ground and solder the earth wire to it...

Maybe I am supposed to solder the earth wire to the tin ribbon thingy???

Anybody?????
