Tascam US-428

Anyone have any opinions on this? It's a 48kHz 24bit audio and 2x2 MIDI interface with a control surface.

I really like the idea of having a control surface for Reason and Cubase and whatnot. The only thing is it's only up to 48kHz :(

or the Tascam US-224, which has fewer inputs and controls.

224 - $200
428 - $300

Worth it?

im wary about the converter quality of these units.
im also wary of tascam, when it is owned by teac
(blay ducks in anticipation of flood of pro-tascam posts)

Tascam have been in the game for some time, and have made some cool things, like their range of Multi tracks

But their reputation was with bringing about afordable gear, and this is where they mostly are now. Affordable, which is a dangerous word, sometimes means that you dont get the best quality....but dont rule out Tascam altogether.

They still make some cool stuff.....

Just do some research, and try to buy the very best you can afford

mackie has got a cool controler interface which incorperates audio and midi. check that out(it might be a bit more expensive then this 200 dollars tascam product).

How about the Edirol UR-80?

http://www.edirol.com/products/info/ur80.html

It's about the same price (a little more) and has 96kHz / 24 bit I/O plus it looks a little sturdier/more professional.

Hey Cheesy and all others,

I own a US-428.
It is cool as a control surface.
Dealing with Reason/Cubase is a breeze with it.

As far as the 48 kHZ quality is concerned I cannot attest to its performance here that much as I only used it on a few vocal and guitar tracks before buying an Alto Mixer + M-Audio 2496.

I wanted to be able to use nearfield monitors so I changed the configuration of my I/O...

I still use the US-428 as a control surface though when messing with Reason/Cubase...

I would check e-bay for one.

I bought mine there at a deep discount off retail and got it in like new condition.

My .02...

Cheers!
