Linux has lots of coders working on it. Multiple times more than any closed source OS. If a group of talented programmers interested in music production would start developing studio Linux, I see no reason why it couldn't be done. I actually believe if it would be done it would be quite superb OS that would easily beat Windows XP and Mac OSX.

If it would be done I'd consider moving to it.

If Linux will keep developing as fast as it does from the begining of his existance -
i'll move to Linux completely at year 2025 !

But the number of coders working on open source Linux is so insane that they eventually get out something better. And the custom Linuxes are for users by users so the OS's have only what they need.

I haven't yet moved to Linux because of bad support for audio software.

Yup. Servers and HC geeks and/or programmers. Although there are some good video and image editing software around.

Oh man,

do check out dyne:bolic (http://www.dynebolic.org/ ) a standalone Linux DVAW that runs from CD. Easy to roll your own dream-setup/config and clone it to CD.

It includes full audio-infrastructure (jack, alsa) and a load of audio and video software, all ready to run.
