I have a Pro Tools MIDI problem
I have an Mbox, an m-audio 2x2, and a virus indigo. In Pro Tools when i try to make 16 different channels(for 16 different patches) I can only get one sound. I tried to set a Multi for this, but i must be doing something wrong. When i set the second patch on the multi to midi channel 2 and try to record on protools, it reverts to midi channel 1 on my indigo. I dont want to be able to play 16 patches at once, just around 8. I dont know what I am doing wrong but i just cant get it to work.

have you tried it with any other sequencers? If not, that might narrow the problem down to the virus or pro tools.
|
I think that I am the problem. I just cant figure it out for some reason. I'm a noob when it comes to sequencing. I am probably forgetting to do something in Pro Tools
|
Not too familiar with pro tools, but i will give it a shot. Are you changing each midi number in pro tools to match with each corresponding midi channels on the virus?
|
Im pretty sure that i have done that yea. The first slot in pro tools is set midi in+out to channel 1. The second slot is set midi in+out to channel 2...and the multi parts on my virus are set to corresponding midi channels. Part 1 is set to midi channel 1, Part 2 to midi channel 2... Im not sure why it isnt working... u guys know of any good free sequencing programs?

check over at KVR for sequencers.

Tools is a strange beast when it comes to MIDI.....
I remember there are like 4 banks of MIDI or something (002) Which PT hardware are u using? |
I tried to post this yesterday but when I hit submit I got a 404 error and then couldn't get back onto the site. Anyway here is what I was going to say.
Quote:
Start again from scratch, set the virus to multimode, create two midi tracks in pro-tools, one with midi out set to chan1 the other midi out set to chan 2 out don't put anything on midi in on either track at the moment. Create an audio track that is set to record on whatever channel the virus is coming into. To test that everything is working, when you go to play the midi, the audio track should be set to record but the midi tracks should not. Once you have got this working you can then set the midi in channels to 1 and 2 respectively, but only have record set on one at a time. The machine I have with pro-tools on it isn't set-up at the moment but I am pretty sure this should work fine. It took a bit of pissing around to get protools doing what I wanted and once I had I saved a basic setup so I didn't have to do all this evertime I wanted to start something new :) As jase says, pro-tools is a strange beast when it comes to midi, it took me several hours of messing around to get it to work the first time but after that I had no problems. |
If you are using protools on a mac , you need to set up everything in your audio midi setup section , which you can find in your utilitys folder. Don't uses the midi patch box on your midi channel because it you will only be able to preview the patch sound on your virus but when you play the track it will switch back to what ever patch is enabled in your multimode . Just fallow the directions in your manual for multimode and everything will work. also try not to change to much stuff in your virus because everything should work right out the box , plus you run the risk of changing a prefrence that doesnt need to be swithed and could mess everything up ie. device id . I had my virus indigo 2 up and running with my protools setup in a half hour out the box . if you got a pc dont know nothin about it.

Is there any way to make Protools work on XP?
