Moby releasing music with interactive mixing technology
"multimix digital music format" or official name "DI".
this tech will be featured in moby's new single "Lift Me Up". you no longer have to take a mixed cd as it is now you can mix it yourself! this technology will be featured on a dvd i assume with some kind of interactive software builtin. more info to come... |
Sounds crazy....got any good links to share?
|
Sounds gay if you ask me.
Everyone wants to be able to do what djs do and now they are just making it so the technology does all the work "no talent required" just press this 'autobeatmix' button and you'll be mixing like a pro! Get some friggen decks and learn how to mix if ya wanna be a dj like the rest of usk. Problem is, stupid club promoters play with shit like this and then they are all like 'oh thats easy, why should I pay you to do that you silly dj' and hence our livelihood is getting stripped out from under us cause of friggen technology. Talent before technology I say!!!!!!! 8) |

And let's not forget choice track selection. Without a fanatical love of the genres you dare to mix in front of a live crowd; you will suck ass. Even if you have great DJ skills; if you predominately spin Trance in front of a crowd, you will suck as a Hip-Hop DJ. Why? Because the best beat-matching, cutting, and scratching can't cover up the fact that you have no idea what's in the crates... Moby came up with a sissy, piss-ant, Nancy-boy trick. Way to go! It takes talent, knowledge, and experience to make the crowd eat out of your hand. Technology is the spice, not the essence. 8) |

Fucking DJ superstars. It's not a talent, it's a skill. True turntablists excluded from this comment of course. :D I'm glad technology is comming out so music will auto-beatmix. Maybe this will drive people back to some truely enspirational deck work. |

Got to hand it to the guys using things like ableton and a keyboard to DJ. Much more creative, and much more talent required. |
NO NO!
this is not dj sort of mixing this is studio mixing=balance,eq,paning and sort... you can decide how the final result will sound you want more guitar? you will get it you want to drop a channel you dont like? you got it... thats the idea behind this. interactive "sudio mixing". |

SO, it takes MORE than good tracks BECAUSE if you have a tracklist of 30 GREAT TRACKS but you don't have any mixing skills you will only deliver an AVERAGE performance. If each track is just mashed over the other, if you don't equalize the levels before you bring each new track in, if you choose the songs in such a way that the end of one has nothing to do (rhthmically, melodically, etc) with the beginning of the next, then your set is going to SUCK ASS. IT TAKES: (1) Good tracks (2) The ability to arrange them in an optimal manner so they blend well and create the mood of the party's energy (3) Enouigh skill to mix them well so they are seamlessly blended throughout the party. (I'm not talking SKILL like DJ Z-Trip, just good, basic MIXING skills, that's all I meant by skill). Quote:
Still, the difference between TALENT and SKILL is somewhat subjective. YOU say TOMAE-TOE; I say TOMAH-TOE. So, FUCK DJ-Primadonnas. |

There are a few exceptions to this though of course. DJs who produce their own music to DJ out for one, and DJs who can mix 2 straight 4-beat tracks into an evolving breaks rythm without any scratching sounds or pitch change. If you would like to see my veiw of a talented DJ go here http://www.beastieboys.com/video.php and watch the 3mcs and 1 DJ video. |
