LFOs vs Envelopes

trying to understand some concepts - am I right in thinking that when applying them to filters, LFOs and envelopes essentially sweep the cutoff frequency of the filter? And the difference between the two is that A)lfos are automated and continuous whereas envelopes start and end with the pressing and releasing of a key on the keyboard?

lfos and env are different
env is a stage with applyed time on start and end by seconds/ms
lfo acts as a cycle when the waveform determine the shape of the cycle
lfo is never ending but it can be set to retriger everytime a key is pressed.
lfo can also act as an env (see env mode on virus lfos.)

how this clears out some stuff.
just try this out and learn by expirience
