Mac Mini
Do you think that I could use a Mac Mini for a music only computer? I have no idea if you can upgrade to a gig of ram but I think that would be better than 256, ya know.
|
yes, they are more powerful than my powerbook and I manage just fine. THere will probably be some times when you will have to freeze tracks in your sequencer depending on how many tracks of vsti's and AU's you use.

and don't forget it is a G4 and not G5
|
its a waste of money.
you will need to pay tons of extra to get it to be a proper audio computer-more memory, faster cpu upgrade etc... better save up for a g5 :) |

Thanks for the advice. How much does Logic go for and is it worth it? I've heard some horror stories of their support now that they are owned by Apple, I guess they are more focused on Garage Band.

First of all, if you need to buy some ram, hardisks for your mac -
don't buy from applestore for fucks sake, better save the money. Personally, i think that for $500 you can get a normal secondhand G4 instead of this shitty mac-mini, that totally pointless for DAW use. |
Logic is working fine on my powerbook. I got the education discount for $499. The mac mini is not as bad as everyone is saying. It has a faster cache than the old g4 models that you will be able to buy for 500. get yourself a firewire soundcard and you are good to go.

Nice thanks!
