Virus TI makes soundcard superfluous?

Since the Virus has both audio and midi ins, my first impression was that it would practically act as a soundcard, with ASIO drivers, etc.

But, I saw something at ampfea about the Virus TI not using any soundcard drivers to integrates the Virus TI into my sequencer. So I guess I will still have to use a soundcard in my computer, right?

---

Sorry if this has been covered in this forum already. I?ve done a search both here and at ampfea without result. If this is still irritating anyone, I suggest he/she makes a sticky topic with FAQs and answers.

Thanks.

what they meant is that the virus can be used as a sort of a convertor, for example

the synth master xlr > virus inputs > virus usb audio output > daw system.
what accualy means you dont need a soundcard to use for inputs but i belive you do need an asio support low letency soundcard.

You can choose to use the TI as an ASIO soundcard if you wish - whilst I have an Audiophile 24/96 in my PC, I haven't used at all since I've been testing the TI.

I'm looking forward for that feature!
My EMU 1820M drivers are somewhat buggy...Can't wait to get my hands on the TI :D

Hi Mad, in what way are the Emu drivers buggy? That card was on my short-list to buy.

thnx mate

Timo: Have a look there and see for yourself: http://www.productionforums.com/emu

It seems to work for a few users using a very specific configuration.
I want to get a Powercore card but since it's barely usable with EMU's drivers, I don't know what to do. The EMU support said to my friends that got a powercore to DISABLE THE INPUTS on the EMU card but since I use some hardware synths, this doesnt makes sense to me.

I have to run my projects at 20ms latency to stay away from glitches which is not very good.
Not a BAD card but I wouldnt recommend it to anyone.

Ben, what are the latencies like with the TI Asio drivers, lowest and lowest under high cpu load etc?

MADSTATION 23.05.2005 02:00 AM

grs has a nice point...Would be nice to know :) I'm aware that latency can be dependant on quite a few factors but it would be nice to have just an idea of what we can expect.

I was about to get a new soundcard but I can wait for the TI and see how well it goes...Hopefully should be released soon!
