RME hdsp 9632 sound card.

Well, it's finally time to upgrade the computer (not that the wife knows my plans as yet) and the ball should hopefully start rolling over the next few months.

The first thing I'm looking into is a new sound card. I know there are feww guys on here with the RME stuff, so what's your opinons on the 9632?

I'm open to sugestions to other brands too, as I'm not thinking of buying straight away. I'm just getting a feel for the market at teh moment.

It will be conected to a desktop by the way.

EDIT; 9632 I meant....

If you mean the 9632 then its a very decent card.

I owned one before my fireface and I would recommend it to anyone. The drivers are rock solid and the sound quality is very good. You can get very low latencies while tracking or mixing and the total mix software is uber cool.

You shouldnt have any problems with it tbh. Mine was installed and working within minutes!

Me and you both! I am (plan) on getting a G5 here in the next few months. Looking at the fireface as well.

Ten how are the AD/DA converters in the fireface?

Very impressive...I only really have much lesser cards to compare against but the FFs da/ads are really very nice indeed.

Oops, yep, that's the one.

Thanks for the feedback guys.

The fireface AD/DAs are the same ones used in the 9632 though right?

Why did you switch to a fireface Ten?

ten 29.06.2005 08:01 AM

I think the firefaces are slightly newer/better. The sound it makes is certainly a bit more cleaner and has more low end. Dont get me wrong tho, the 9632 sounds awesome!

I switched because I wanted more i/o without filling up pci slots. Also if I ever decide to go mobile I have a decent card all set and ready.

If you can afford it I recommend going for the fireface. Quite possibly the last soundcard youll ever need :)

This is one thing that sort of pissed me off with the 9632 actually. I'd want to grab the analogue in/out expansion and even though they don't actually use the slots, they still take up the space.

I don't think I'll have the extra cash to spend on the Fireface though.

Anyway, how about some other cards which fall into this same bracket? Any ideas.

M-audio delta 1010. Sound quality isnt quite as good and it probably hasnt got quite as good asio drivers, still an awesome card tho.

Maybe the echo layla aswell....

Dont look at ANYTHING made by EMU.

Now, the RME stuff is nice, the MOTU stuff is nice as well.

However, the Metric Halo 2882 is astounding, but it's in the next price order of magnitude.

you should go for a 2nd hand creamware card+a16 convertor.
dsp power with superb dsp effects and synths, and with the A-D convertor you get top notch convertion.
