Good sampler

What brands are to go for?
What are good prices what are not?
I've looked at some second hand akai samplers in the S---- series and thought that a few hundred bucks for a S3000 wouldnt be a bad deal. What you think?

Don't bother with hardware samplers...Kontakt is the way forward IMO.

Kontakt 2 is bloody amazing. Why on earth would you want a hardware sampler once you've tried it?

Because you avoid turing on the stinking computer. :D

I don't think I'll stop using my Emu - specially for drums. The Emus' have an output boost, which although digital, seems to give a nice drive to the sound when pushed hard enough. The filters on the Emu range are very nice too.

The Akai S range have a characture which is pleasing for snares. I don't have an Akai, but I'm on the lookout for a cheap 5000 or 6000.

Many hardware samplers add characture when sampling straight into the inputs of the samplers too. Just think about MC60s or SP12s.

Of course hardware samplers don't have the options of the software, but many have a pleasing sound (at least for me :D ) and for beats I don't think I'll make the soft change. Also who wants to jam live on a softie.
