vocoding bass guitar with access virus

i recently baught a bass guitar , also have an electro accoustic, but i have no amp and have come to the conclusion that i dont need one as i have all this and fx in the vocoder on board the virus..
you can come up with some great sounds/fx and you can definetly notice it wasn,t input with a midi keyboard.
does anyone know if the virus was built to take this sort of thing.
could i possiblly damage it without using a preamp or amplifier??
any help appreciated :? :?:

you will need a preamp, using the input boost on the virus is going to get you a low level, crappy and noisy sound.

do you think it better to use the 1/4 in trs i/o on my soundcard or mixer and then route the signal to the input on the virus :?:

Actually, what you want is a DI box. Get a good one, like the Little Lab's Red Eye : ( http://www.mercenary.com/litlabredeye.html ), and you'll have a useful studio tool for years to come.

I'm not sure what kind of effect you're looking for by vocoding your bass, but the answer is "No, you won't hurt any of your gear." So get creative and share your results...
