What is making this Sound?
I emailed the guy waiting for a response.
But I figured being that there are so many talented people on this forum, you guys might possibly know how I can make this sound. To hear the sound Im looking to recreate go here: http://www.myspace.com/theblu3 click on the Cannible rmx link. play the track about the 54 second into it you will hear the sound. Im dying to know how to create this sound. If anyone can help figure this one out. Thanks in Advance! |
ok i listened to the sound on a very cheap mono headphone (on eear only) i use at work, and i think (hope i am not wrong on this) that is a classic reece sound u can hear in all dnb tracks (teebee, counter strike...)
some call them hoovers, but they are totally different from the old school hoover sound (made on the alpha juno 1) which is based on PWM. these sounds are saw sound and all lies in playing with pitch&filter env & modulating cutoff. |
thnx for the reply hatembr, appreciate it.
Just 2 questions... you said - "that is a classic reece sound" Where can I find this reece sound? In a sample? In a synth? - On a scale of 1 to 10, 10 being the most difficult. How hard would it be to try produce a composer like that. What is making all the filtering & pitching?? a VST?? or.. Automation within a Sequencer? or both. Or its the synth itself?? Thank you for taking the time to answer my questions. Much Respect! fluidnyc |
yo
Reece is a generic name for that sound, some call it hoover, some call it reece, some even call it bass ! so don't get confused with its names. If you go on DnB forum, you'll find that people are always making challenges to get the best "Reece" sound. it is like talking about the Virus TI here  That sound can be found in the form of samples in many DnB oriented sample CDs, i don't know their names but I know it exists. And of course, you can create it from scratch on a synth like the Virus or any analog/Va synth. I read somewhere that TeeBee creates its reece sounds on a Supernova II, some people use the JunoX VST (which later became Hydra). To give you a flag, i'd say that on a scale of 1->10, the reece sound would be around 6/7 if you know well your synth. The sound itself is not that hard to get, but its modulations and further process (including correct compression) makes it sound nice and pupming. As far as the automation goes, you can innovate! try what ever you want to modulate yours, but as far as i know, all reece sounds have their cutoff modulated by amodwheel or envelop, not sure tho! There is a forum called "Dogz on Acid" which deals a lot with dnb and all its related stuff and sounds. You can check it out and be sure to learn a lot about dnb prod there! hope this helps !!! |
Nitpicking : I believe it's Reese, not Reece ;)
http://www.discogs.com/artist/Reese I think the original Reese is "round" - like this. http://www.synerjee.net/exp/dyson_reese.mp3 A more drum 'n bass Reese would be this: http://www.synerjee.net/crap/dysonbass.mp3 Both of these come from the Virus C. A complete howto can be found here: http://www.producer-network.de/tutor...hts/12275.html (german, but just click on the Winamp playlist and you'll hear it step by step) It's indeed much more of a technique than an actual sound or piece of gear that's good in doing this. |
not sure for Reese, anway
the sounds you posted are much like a classic hoover sound, especially the 2nd one. Now listen to these samples: http://www.freewebs.com/hatembr/Parallel_forces.mp3 http://www.freewebs.com/hatembr/Auto_Ignition.mp3 my fav one is the second bassy one! that is the reece sound |
Thank you guys.
YES. These are the sounds im after and looking to create. Yoozer - thank you for the forum tutorial. Now to translate into English. |

Yoozer this pitch/saw/filter automation is created in the sequence yes? Like load the sample into the sequencer and run it thru vsts/effects ect? Or.. use something like Reason and run it thru Malstrom and other stuff reason has to offer? For dnb would Reason be better then Logic or Nuendo? Because Reason has more devices to work with? |
