weird sound / pitch up on some patches
hello
i have now the second TI (first desktop - now polar). both have the following problem: the most patches i can play without problems (midi+audio - no usb). but on some patches i get weird "pitchup" / soundchanging. perhaps someone can try the sound: ROM M 35 - DSCTHEQMS when i play only this sound with max. 2 notes everything is ok. but when i play more than 2 notes on this sound or i use 1-2 notes on this patch + another patch on another midichannel i got a weird changing/pitchup sound so far i have this on 3-4 sounds - all other play normal. i have this problem with desktop ti and polar - so i thinks its not a hardware defekt. sorry for bad english ;) |
This has always been the case in multi mode with the Virus. Certain sounds don't seem to like being played more than monotimbrally. The solution has always been the same - record that part to audio.
At least this is a doddle now with the TI. ;) |
This happened to me a lot when I first got the TI - since turning off 'legacy usb support' in the bios though its very very rare - worth checking out if you have this option or something similar, it seems to perform alot better with just dedicated usb2 support enabled only.

i use only a midi and audio cable
so this has nothing to do with usb i think :) |
This pitch up bug you mention when sending two midi chanels sounds to me like voice allocation problems. If anyone knows a lot about how a multi timbral synths holds patch data in voice you'll know a new voice is used for each key or unison layer for that one patch. If your still with me, I think that the dynamic dsp allocation is getting patch data for each new voice which is needed but sometimes missing some parameters or not refreshing them in time to play a new voice.
In another thread I mentioned the 'loss of knob control on long notes' bug. When I lost control the only way the changes made were evident was to play a new midi key - new dsp voice and the patch data up to date with the tweeks. somehow the old voice, the one that was held down had been forgotten. The insides of the TI are still around 90% baked. When you push it you get a few 'what the..' |
what i don`t understand is that i have the problem only on a few patches
even when i only press 3 or 4 keys on my polar the sound pitchup on ROM M 35 - DSCTHEQMS. so it happen without midicable too. when it`s a voice allocation problem - why it`s happen only on few patches :( |
It has only ever happened with certain kinds of patches - kick drums made with resonant filter sweeps are typical culprits.
It's just one of those things - my advice is just to bounce that part and be done with it. |
Oops - sorry. I see what you mean about this patch - that is quite a strange effect! Certainly it is made worse by virtue of the fact that it's 4 voice Unison. Reducing the number of voices helps.

Why should we have to use work arounds though, Ben.....what is the problem that these things cannot be located and fixed, especially if like you say its been happening in previous revisions of the virus.

My god, someone else is having the same problem!
Hmm, I have been on support with Access about this problem, and it was suggested I send the unit back to the shop. If others are experiencing this problem, then perhaps the virus isn't faulty at all. If this is a known problem how come Access didn't tell me about it before I boxed the damn thing and arranged for Digital Village to pick it up! :( ten, would you mind elaborating on how you fixed this problem? Is it PC only BIOS you're talking about, or the BIOS on the Virus TI itself? Thanks |
