both are low end mixing consoles,
let me ask you this:
why do you need\want to mix outboard?

mind_over_gravity 15.11.2005 06:40 PM

i have too much external gear and a few audio inputs in my audio card.
i dont play guitars and dont use mics but maybe i will need it in the future
so i want also to be in this mixer a good preamp.

Well, you wont find good preamps in any of these budget mixers.
Good mic preamps usualy come as a standalone box ,mono or dual mono if you dont happen to own a neve\ssl\TLA\studer\Amek console :D
it sounds to me like you dont need a mixer but what you need is an Analog 2 Digital convertor or in other words an A\D convertor.
is your soundcard expandable? does it allow for ADAT connection?
take into consideration that with a convertor you will get a seperate channel in your DAW for every input while with an analog mixer you have only 2 Mono Outputs\the Sum of all the channels.

whats your budget and how many inputs do you need?
what gear do you corrently have?

Mmm, 24 tracks of analogue.

Soundcraft Ghost, Mackie 8-buss, Soundtracs Project 8, Allen & Heath GS3000, to name but a few.

Or the budget versions: Soundcraft Studio, Allen & Heath GS3.

I think all of those are out of production, so will have to be had 2nd hand.

If you want new, and less channels, there's: Allen & Heath MixWizard, Mackie Onyx, etc.

thinking about it the Onyx+firewire expantion is a realy good setup.

Just be aware of a certain couple of limitations of the Onyx. For some odd reason if you want to multi-track your audio into the computer, the hard-wired direct outputs of the mixer are taken pre-EQ and pre-fader, which just about bypasses the mixer, rendering it nothing more than an expensive soundcard in this context.

Furthermore, you can't route any more than two outputs from your computer back out into the Onyx, which puts computer-to-Onyx mixdowns out of the question.

mind_over_gravity.

I am flogging my Behringer Eurodesk 24-4-2 - based on the Mackie design of the day. It has it's original box, manuals PSP and is in excellent condition. It has been in storage for the last 6 years.

?100 and its yours.
