I?m shopping for some new monitors for my home studio!
Any knowledgeable suggestions welcome.

I have listed monitors I am considering below. If anyone has any experience with these monitors you can give some advice.

QUESTED F11
DYNAUDIO BM5A
DYNAUDIO BM6A
ADAM P11A
MACKIE HR624

I have a pair of the mackie HR 824s (similar to the 624s). I like these monitors a lot as my mixes translate a lot better than they did when I was mixing on a pair of NS-10ms. Though ultimately you need to know your acoustic space for proper mixing. One drawback (if you can call it that) is that the 824s are simply too much power for me, meaning I had to turn the amps down to a minimal setting just so I can monitor at a decent level. These puppies get very, very loud - which is not good when you live in an apartment complex. Also, they are not as flat frequencied as Mackie wants you to believe, but once you know them you can compensate in your mixes.

Yup i use the 824s at work with the D8B desk and they are very nice, and your right they are powerfull, great low end.

Anyone have the F11's?

i heard some amazing reviews about the Quested active F11s.
people say they are a bargin for the price.

When I went to buy monitors, I listened to the BM6A's. They were HOT! Couldnt afford them though.

What are you using in your home studio now? How long have you been using them?

I ask because, it may take some time for you to adjust to new monitors, and being familiar with your monitors is one of the most important things. It might be of more value to you to spend some money on proper acoustic treatment, and continue using your current monitors.

I have just moved to a new place and moved my home studio here so everything sounds new anyway. I'm an engineer and familiar working with different room acoustics so it?s not a problem.

I have been lent a set of old Quested monitors im using but they are way out of date now.

I?m looking for the right balance in the high mid and low, something special in the high and lows, I want them to be tight and just right.

I'm swaying towards the Quested F11's, :?

thats not suprising,alot of engineers have degrees in electronics and pysics.

I have a pair of BM5A's. They have the same drivers as the BM6A's, only less amp power and smaller enclosure. The sound is very accurate and detailed. The difference between BM6A and BM5A is the low frequency response. The BM6A goes about 10Hz lower. A sub would be a good addition but these can play the bass sometimes surprisingly loud. The frequency response drops below 45Hz very fast. In my opinion the sound quality is in it's own class at this price range. I guess the mackie 624's are also good because I had HR626's and loved them. The mackie sound is however a little "sharper" than the sound of dynaudio's.

The BM5A's can be played loud too. In fact the sound seems to get even better the louder you turn them, until the bass starts to compress but the sound level is then very high.

Genelec 1029 must be one of the worst genelecs ever built. Their sound just don't compare to the more expensive models. And I don't mean only the bass.

You really can't go wrong with the Dynaudios. All the most experienced engineers I know have switched to them or really want to after hearing them.
