Another Soundcard thread

Hi Chaps (and any chappesses)

Can you recommend a good soundcard?

USB will do fine as I only really need the card to record vocals onto my PC, and host 1 x Midi device. As well as for general PC use.

Anything that fits the following basic spec, the priority being a rock solid driver and absolute minimum configuration (fuckaroundability).

1 x Stereo Audio Analogue and Digital Line Ins/Outs.
1 x Midi In/Out
Onboard Gain, and Volume control
Phones Socket
Minimum 16bit 44.1 kHz

Cheers

i would recommend the Maudio audiophile USB
but generaly i would go with firewire rather with USB dou to faster transfare\communication rate.

whats your budget?

Hi Tommer, thanks.
Looks good ....it may even be a bit more than I need.

The Edirol UA-25 USB that I have just now has a fine transfer rate for its purpose though the Mic Pre-amps are a bit too quiet, and gains a bit noisey. 24/96 operation only allows either Audio In or Out to function also, not both at the same time.

If I need to buy a seperate Firewire card for the PC then it may just be a needless cost? Not too clued up in this.

Budget = ?200

Firewire 410 M-Audio..But be carefull,if your Mainboard has no firewire connection and you have to buy a PCI or PCMCIA(Laptop) Firewire card then you will need one with Texas instrument chips on it...I know cause i had a M-Audio 410 and it would only run on my Laptop stable with a PCMCIA card with Texas chips...Sold my 410 and got a MOTU 828 mk2 cause i needed more inputs

i would look into a 2nd hand Motu.
they are very stable and have great hardware.

as for your corrent soundcard,if your willing to stay with 44.1\16
spending that 200 pounds on a decent mono standalone preamp is also a wise option.
something like a 2nd hand "Brick" or "Realy nice preamp".
