Fat Clean Bass ? la Daft Punk / Deep sub HipHop bass
Is it even possible with a virus? Do virus not come with any simple bass patches because they just dont sound good on a virus?

The Virus is such an amazing synth, that it seems a shame that people would buy it and just use the presets. How boring??? Also, always apply processing to the audio. EQ and compression are your friend here, when it comes to deep bass. |

accualy i wouldnt use 3 oscilators, this might be good for a lead bass but when it comes to deep sub basses -let is more.
just use 1 osc -waveform of your choice to give the color and the second should be sine or triangle mixed at the proper amount to get the thump\lower end. i would suggest using a single 4pole LP filter, little or no reasonance and some evelope modulation as you please. |
Yeah, it's dead easy to program from an initial patch:
sine wave, unison at about 3 or 4, fiddle about with the semitones on the oscillators a bit and for clean bass use hardly any detune and no reverb. Bit of Sub Osc to fatten it up too. Take the cutoff up or down a bit according to taste. I always tend to use a LP filter for these sounds. Make sure your patch isn't panning wide so it cuts straight down the middle. I think most of the preset patches are intended to show off the Virus's capabilities and modulation options as I've found the really usable stuff when proganmming it myself and keeping things simple. When I hear Virus presets in tunes - e.g. Howard Scarr's patch "weee" on a Rennaissance CD, they are used as one-shots on breakdowns and intros. No wonder you hear some people saying "I can't use the presets in my songs". It's because they're not being subtle enough with their Virus and trying to use some mad patch all throughout their song. |
for real clean sub hip hop bass you can always take a rally long 808 kick sample and snip the attack off it

I'd pay good moneys for an all bass soundset bank that covered all the basics.

yeh.. you know.. mini-moog, 303, acid style, deep sub bass.. 127 patchs should be more than enough to cover all these kinds of basics.
To be more specific this is the kind of bass im after.. Can someone give some tips to getting bass like this? really thick and clean. http://www.megaupload.com/?d=20TN7D1J |
