how to emulate NordModular and NordLead with Virus C?
Hello, I'm Virus C user and I'm interested in funk, jazz, R&B to do with this machine. I'm trying to edit some patches from NordModular and Nord Lead. Maybe somebody has done this job? :) And I'm searching for old synth patches (Moog, ARP, Oberheim-I need them all!!!) Maybe somebody could help me? 8O

Given the both the NL and G2 are very flexible synths - what kind of noises are you trying to create?
Can you post samples? |
Exactly I'm trying to find out all those things on on G1. I don't own Nord, but I can see modules schemes in the editor 3.03. There are lots of converted NordLead 2 patches. All those patches have the same and stable module-scheme. All differences just in cable connection. I thing Virus could recreate those sounds. Problem is that G1 doesn't have demo version unlike G2 do.

maybe few mp3 or stream links for the kind of sounds you are talking about will help use give you some programing tips.
in general speaking if you have the scemes of the nm patch you could just duplicate it step by step to a virus INIT ,only thing that needs extra work is geting the right filter settings, moog style filters on the VC might help you there. |
And some careful high eq if you want to try and match the character of nord synths - they are alot brighter/harsher than the virus.

I personally don't think you can emulate a Nord that well with a Virus.
I have a Virus C and a Nord Lead 2 and they both are very different. The Nord can scream when Syncing FM - the Virus does, but definitely not the same characture. The Nord has a much heavier bass presence that the Virus - not much will help you get that unfortunately. Also the Nord Notch/LP filter config is amazing. Wish my Nord had an input for this filter alone! And then if you go the other way. The Virus can do pads which the Nord can not touch. Great synced LFOs and mod routing are possible with the Virus - not the Nord lead 2. Using the LFOs on the Virus in envelope mode rocks - Nord2 can't do this. Although the Virus is damn flexible, I still think they are two very synths with two very different charactures. The Nords are so cheap that maybe it's worth picking one up. |

But the pitch and mod controls are great. Maybe buying a keyboard version, then a modify into a desktop is an option. Maybe not a cost effective one though. :D |
You know it better, because You have both synths.
I'm beginner in sound programming and I'm not able to edit sound just by hearing it for now. I just wanted to recreate those Nord sound which are more analogue style. So, it's not necessary to recreate just Nord. I need Moog, Arp 2600, Arp String Ensemble patches. I can't post particular example. And I need good string pads. |
owning a virus already I often wonder if its wise to buy a Nord Lead as well, this thread has made me want one now haha
I remember hearing a Nord Lead 1 that a friend had a few years ago and being really impressed. But that was years ago, before i knew much about synths and long before the virus came along. Maybe I remember it being better than it actually was :? But I hear so many stories about how the 1 sounds better than the 2, and the 2 sounding better than the 3. Also something about a memory card thats needed with one of them? Can any of you guys fill me in on these rumours? Is there a forum for Nord lead users or any fan websites? |
