Virus TI, VC.....not loud enough?

hello....I was comparing the Vc through usb, it seems to be softer than any other Plug in I have. Anyone noticed that?.....what sort of plug in could I use to get it to sound louder and punchier?......yeah...I've tried raising the fader's level....but even when its all the way up still not clear enough

what you need is a c*o*m*p*r*e*s*s*o*r

If the channel readout peaks at 0dB, then its loud enough, you are probably better off lowering the level of the other channels.
If 'punch' not volume is what you are after, there are legions of compression and maximiser plugins out there.

Dont get the two confused.

If the channel level is no where near 0 you could always increase the input gain on the channel...

The volumes on VC seem quite comparable to the softsynths I've used (z3ta, Absynth, etc).

With 24-bits you don't need to worry about hammering it as close to 0dB as possible, you have masses of dynamic range to play with, the noise-floor is very low. I think it's normally advised that you aim for about -12dB with peaks at around -9dB tops. This is with all channels, so they're all the same level when you come to mixdown. You'll have good headroom to play with as a result.

Recording at 16-bits or less is another matter.

Hey Zebastian I have the exact same problem, first i was affraid that there was something wrong with my Virus, so i'm kind of "happy" to see others with the same experience.

People say "You just need a compressor" or "You need a maximiser" or what ever... The fact is when I use other plug-ins like, for example the Gforce minimonster or Linplug RMIV drum machine, the output is way louder than the Virus even without compression ect.

So anyone who has a good explanation for that?

Is the patch volume all the way up???

adsr 17.03.2006 05:59 AM

yeah, i remember that...

i seem to remember this problem early on. it's not a problem for me anymore. maybe i was a dumbass and didn't notice that a lot of the patches default to a volume of say...40 to 90. patches are, however, easily corrupted on my ti, LFOs get re-clocked and so on. but if i crank the patch volume [ti/shift/patch volume knob] i clip my host's channel strip...which is set to 0.0 in logic. seems plenty loud. i know what you mean though...when i started, i had this same problem.
