Serious Question for the Pros
 

Hello all. I guess I would like to start out that I'm looking for advice from experienced programmers that were raised on using traditional instruments(i.e. guitar,piano,brass,strings). 18 months ago I purchased my first synth. Had barly an idea of what a synthesizer was, let alone any of the internal workings of one. Had no idea what midi was, or all the fucking implemention involved with it. I have developed a more than basic understanding of all this, I am primarlly in need of advice for key editor-type programs in sequencer applications. Is there some kind of flow to it? Or is it just one of those things where you have to do it over and over and over again, to feel it? I would like to preprogram all my midi notes in the editor. It just seems unnatural, since I am 27 and have played traditional instuments since age 6. I am teaching myself(no guidance). It seemed all very easy until I got to this point. So if anyone has any pointers, I would be much appreciative. I own the Virus TI. I have just been turned onto this site, I have read some interesting articals. I don't know about most of you, but the Virus TI is most incredible synth I have ever heard. Sure it has some issues about the Virus control. But I didn't purchase it for that. I purchased it for the sound. The plugin control was a nice available option. At the very least it can be used to adjust the internal and patch/multi settings. I have had very little trouble with mine. [/b]

How come you are inputting all the notes in manually??? Why not just play them in??? It might feel more natural to you, being a musician...

I have done that. I guess I'd like to take the easy approach. I like the sounds of the metredome/mechinical sounding loops. And this way I can mix it up from the root-notes with-out a prob. I don't like having to re-record the midi-tracks when it doesn't sound perfect. This way it IS perfect. :x

Another option would be to set up the quantize function so it will automaticly fix your recordings which are slightly out (that's if your after that tight mechanical feel). Step entry is a real waste of time if you can play.

Thanks Hollowcell. I'm gonna do that. I'm new to this thing and have way to many options in my programs. But your advice is muchly appreciated.
