famous virus leadsound - even a factory patch!

I heard it many times but I'm not able to recreate it :-/

I'm talkiung of the first leadsound in this short demo: http://www.amazona.de/content/musict...CAnthem-01.mp3

Does anyone recognise it?

This is a very common trance sound used in a lot of tunes.

I'm unsure how to do this in the Virus as I'm not sitting in front of it, but I'll try to give you some ideas.

The waveform should be SAW, very quick attack and decay to the max. Sounds like there is no release so don't add any.

Sounds like the saw is detuned quite a bit. On the filter side, it sounds like there's a little bit of resonance and the cutoff is completely open.

Played on it's own, this sound is in fact, quite boring. But the way it's played here is in chords, so it sounds more full.

Oh yeah, and set the Virus to play about 7 voices at once. Then you'll have something similiar to the Supersaw on the JP8000.

I'd also say it is a saw, But I sat and started trying to program the pluck sound used in trance and thought I failed, but when I played a trance line using it it sounded perfect for me. So I'd say play the line you want out of the song and get the midi notes then when programming audition the sound using that. Gives you a better Idea when you play a sound using the notes you are comparing it to.

This actually applies to loads of stuff I'm learning at the moment, as I was listening to some songs and wondering how you get that sound, I actually found presets that matched when I played the tune.

QvsVirus is my favorite patch similar to this one. Can't remember where it came from, but most of my stuff is from the access website.

Cheers
Kris

PS, as before but add unison to it. and try playing with the eq slightly

Listened again, I want the sound at the start

is this also saw with a Sine LFO modulating the filer. Suppose The sound is low attack, high everthing else. distortion
High pass filter????
Can't get my hands on synth for a few more days so just thinking

definitely a detuned saw. High pass filter and sine LFO modulating the cutoff.

Tons of reverb and delay added to it as well.

There are saw patches like that in the virus presets. Look for any presets ending in MS and I bet you find at least one.

Have a look on the access website and you'll find loads of soundsets, that sound you're on about is on the vengeance v3 manuel schleiss soundset. If you hold down a chord on your midi controller you'll hear thats how its done. It can be done with a single key but then you have to offset the oscilators I think to get that sound. Its an easy sound to get sounding a bit like it but to get it exact its very hard.

When I want that sound I just play a chord of 2 notes together and then i've got it.

Try the Manuel Schleiss(MS) incubation soundset patch 21 Koolsaws
tweak it alittle to get the sound you want
