I'm going to be setting up a site for my own band and a site for my friends music project.
I have the domain names etc, but I'm a bit blown away by the sheer number of hosting companies out there.

has anybody got any sage advice or recommendations ?

I'm based in the UK and use these guys to host my website.

I've been with several webhosts and these guys outshine them all. Fair prices, virtually no downtime on their servers, 24/7 support, very helpful when i'm wanting advice or to carry out site upgrades etc... And their quite flexible with regards to bandwidth consumption and disk space usage.

I run a forum/chat website which has a lot of audio/video streaming functionality. You can sign up for an account if you want to access the Media page or MP3 enabled chatroom to check it out.

This site is hosted in the UK at 1and1.co.uk.

I use these guys. You get 25GB and unlimited bandwidth for next to nothing.

Been with them for ages now and never had any probs

I use these guys for hosting my site, http://www.t7online.dk, they got nice technical support, almost no downtime and you get a warning, like, a week or two if they need to update or move the servers which takes no time at all anyway.

Recently, they moved the TrueBasic disk space from 1 to 10 GB which is nice, except the fact that they only apply it to new customers. You're not getting the most for your money regarding disk space and bandwith here but i sure as hell do like their support services and the Cpanel that follows (to edit your site and access features like POP3 emails ect. easily and fast.).

Dirt cheap, as the rest of the hosting companies.
