Why do mp3's sound shit?
 

This sounds OK in Sonar, but then the conversion is crap :cry:

What bitrate did you convert it into?

320 kBps/sec = CD Quality

192 kBps/sec = Pretty Good

128 kBps/sec = P2P Crap

96 kBps/sec = SHITE!!!

Internationally known artists demo their stuff there, maybe the site's specs are better?

Also, what if you just make the file available via a hypertext link download?

Can you just list a file there for download and not streaming playback?

Use the LAME encoder, and tweak the encoding settings to get the best/optimal result with using your particular audio. Use a quality setting of 0 (zero), it'll take longer to encode but it's a much better algorithm. The end file size wont be any different.

I use the LAME codec but with the RazorLame GUI front-end (makes it much easier to tweak).

You'll need to point RazorLame to the "LAME.exe" file once everything's installed (you can do this by going to the options in RazorLame and browsing for the Lame.exe file).

Timo I used the Lame encoder on a program called dBpower AMP. It's only a 30 day free trial thing. I used to use Sound Forge 5, but it's given up the ghost! Cheers. That razor lame looks the business. 8)

Please note that I have had problems with newer versions of LAME, I am using 3.93 as I know it is stable and produces impeccable audio files.
