Opinions are like assholes....

......everyone's got one.

just a little opinion from y'all out there.

Thankya

Dave smith evolver does some pretty evil analog bass.

Yeah Ten, I tweeked around with one a few weeks back. The evolver's no short of evil, that's fersure.

Has anyone a Moog voyager out there, is there any internal way to grit it up?

Really does depend on what you mean by "FATTEST" in my arsehole (oops I mean in my opinion :D ).

For me there isn't any all-in-one-box solution for bass unfortunately.
What sort of music are you trying to create?

iand 01.10.2006 11:30 PM

Yeah, I realize Fattest is subjective. Just wanted to hear what some had to kick around about what the Fattest was. For me the Poly Evolver...is the bass I tend to like. The Virus' filter's in my opinion can't unleash the bass beast, but my programing skills are weak....so it may be possible.
I think analog filters can't be beat or are hard to beat....
I guess I'm going for music that hasn't already been done a thousand times.

Then you want a v-synth loaded with fat ass samples to abuse :)

A lot boils down to the processing, and I think that it does take a fair bit more processing to get a chunky bass out of the Virus. I don't mind using my VC filters on bass from other machines occasionaly though, but I very rarely turn to it for generating the bass itself (keeping in mind the style of music I like of course).

Like Khazul just mentioned, using the V-Synth to layer and bring life to bass samples is a damn nice way to go, and at the moment that's what I do for all the bass I create. I record little clean bass loops from my analogue gear (or friends gear) and then use the V-Synth - works for what I like.

When it comes to my favourite source of bass waveforms, my CS-10 remains to be on top for me. Just love the thing!

I have got some nasty fat bass sounds out of the TI - mucho fekking around to do it tho and need an outboard compressor or transient shaper to really make it work.

iand 05.10.2006 02:52 AM

yeah, the virus bass is what I think of as a "out of body experience" bass, I saw tool a while back, they were using either a kb or a TI....any way, anytime they layed a finger on that thing....felt like someone was playin ping-pong ball with my inerds. I guess the bass I'm looking for, kmfdm starts alot of songs out with. A perfect example is urban monkey warfare off the attack album. It sounds like an Evolver can pull it off.

Khazul 05.10.2006 05:28 AM

Maybe the best was to get brutal bass out of a virus is sample it into a v-synth - balls it up with that thing than stick it back thorugh the virus filters, then into a transient shaper or compressor.

End result should be sick!!!

hmm... off to fiddle ... been a while since I have those two beasts cross looped
