Sync, Timing, Latency Problems Virus B & Cubase

Hello, im looking for some kind help in fixing my midi timing as the Virus plays out of sync by about half a sec or something , sometimes early, sometimes late.

Setup is :
Cubase SX 3 Usb to Usb Oxygen 8 Keyboard
then
thr Oxygen 8 Keyboard Midi Out to Midi Virus B In.

Its recieving midi clock as a little C pops up on the virus when i play my project/midi sequence.
On the transport bar , sync is online/INT.
On sync setup i have it set up like this, is this correct? and anything ive missed.

BTW i have the virus just playing through an external mixer at the moment so its not routed back into the soundcard, if that narrows the problem down.

Ive tried adjusting the aoudio buffer latency, but that just did the same.

Any help would be really helpful thanks.

Is the midi lag fine when you play your controller live, but seems to happen after you record?

Also, is it happening with all your hardware or just the Virus? And it's a notation lag you're talking about right, not midi clock fucking around with appegiators and the like?

Last question...
What version of SX are you running?

I was having a similar issue with an earlier version of SX and I had to create a couple of little files to fix it. Upgrading to the latest version will also do the job as well though. That is if you have the same issue of course.

Hi there, im running SX 3.1.1.944.

Yea its spot on when i press on the controller,no lag, but when i play a midi sequence in cubase its out .The arpeggiators are syncing up bpm ok too, but still just the lag (slightly early or late) when playing them back.My VSTs are syncing up fine too.

I think it could be the crappy oxygen 8 keyboard being crap at throughing to the virus.

:(

Sounds very similar to the issue I was having myself. It was a long time ago and I don't remember clearly, but I remember doing something along these lines to fix it:

Move the file called "ignoreportfilter", found in a folder that should be called (or similar) "c:\program Files\Steinberg\Cubase\MIDI PortEnabler".
Move this "ignoreportfilter" file up to the main directory "c:\program Files\Steinberg\Cubase\".

Also I tried playing around with disabling "emulated ports", plus the timestamp settings, but from memory it was moving the "ignoreportfilter" file that helped.

Good luck!

P.S. I doubt it's the through port on your controller.

What Soundcard are you using?

It also looks like it hasn't been set-up properly (unless it doesn't have MIDI?)

You shouldn't be sending the MIDI clock though the Microsoft GS Wavetable SW Synth.

Also for what you are doing you only need MIDI clock, not MMC (MIDI Machine Control) or MIDI Timecode...

But yes, Ignore Port Filters used to be an issue - I don't think it is an issue in SX3.1.1.944 though - there should be a couple of PDFs in the IgnorePortFilter folder that HC mentioned - these should detail what the problem was and if it should still be an issue...

Hi ,Hollowcell thanks for your advice , ill give it a try in a bit and post the results.

Well spotted Drammy , i didnt have my midi plugged in at the time of the screenshot, but its basically the same but with usb out next to the sw wavetable synths,(ticked btw).

Oh , right ill untick MMC and "Midi Timecode follows project time"

Lets see if this stuff solves it :) .

BTW im using the realtek ac97 with asio4all drivers at the moment , as my echo indigo io hates my laptop, and im awaiting a EMU 1616M.

Thanks

Keiran

Damn !

I tried all the above , but it didnt sort things out. Its being odd, sometimes it will stay at the same latency, so i could just use the midi delay on the cubase channel, but then when i selcted a different channel and then played the project it was messed up again.

Ill soon be getting my EMU 1616 and hopefully that will be more stable and sort this out.

Well I'm out of ideas. Hope the new card sorts it out for you.

Drammy 26.10.2006 12:46 PM

I am confident your new card will resolve this - personally I wouldn't dream of running synths via MIDI off a Controller Keyboard connected via USB!

Is it USB 1 or 2?

Have you ensured its on its own IRQ setting?

Have you amended the PCI buss latencies?

kayd 26.10.2006 03:31 PM

Hello, no there seems to be alot of things on IRQ 10 and a couple of usb controllers on 5.Im not sure how you change the IRQ of things...

Its USB 2.0

I dont know wat a PCI bus latency is.

But Thanks anyway ppls.

Ill wait a few days and see what happens with this new card if it arrives from ebay .
