a little test on filters
[edited... to find updated file and link just scroll down]
I've tried to compare the filters of Triton Classic, Motif Rack ES and Virus B... you can download the video here: http://www.dedicatedtotriton.net/files/filters.mp4 Just some consideration 1 triton suffer a lot on the knob twisting poor resolution  2 motif rack es act differently than the other two when rising resonance while cutoff knob is at its max: the principal tone do not decrease in volume... (maybe my I've made some mistake programming the sound but the same happens to many patches I've tried) regards, Lorenzo |
Well, the way you describe motifs behaviour (can't watch the file, is this a quicktime format?) is rather positve for bass sounds and I love the FS1R filters very much, what shows a similar behaviour.
|
hi sorry for the strange format... I can easly see it with quick time. anyway http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-ickw5EsPCk here you can see the video if you're interesting.
Yes the yamaha kind of filters not affecting the principal note can give good results in bass sounds but even in acoustic tipe of sound where you can add easly resonance without affecting the fundamental... I'll try to make some more experiment on this. Regards, Lorenzo |
Quicktime means nothing but trouble for a PC User, so I refuse to install it on my music PC... ;)
I hope I'm allowed to say that on a Virus Forum without getting stoned, but the FS1R is my favourite Synth for some time... It's not unusual that filters get louder on resonance, quite some analog filters do and run into satuaration, while most of the digital synths tend to reduce level to prevent clipping... |
well if you can't use quicktime (I can understand you, when I use to be a windows man I hated quicktime but now that I've switched to mac I'm very happy with it) I hope that the youtube version work good... I have upload the video but I didn't check it out

Yep, youtube works fine :D
Btw. when I tested the Radias at the music fair it showed a similar performance as the triton when moving the filter frequency at high resonance, it seems to me that Korg isn't spending much effort in parameter interpolation... |
no they doesn't... and it's a pity cos at my ears their filters works in a very good way.

Updated adding a kurzweil at the end of the previows film... so now Virus B, Motif Rack ES, Triton Classic and K2500R
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wxtg2QlRU8o and the file for download here http://www.dedicatedtotriton.net/files/filters.avi (in the avi format no one should have problem to see it) regards, Lorenzo |
