Alesis Micron
Well so here's the deal,
My main controler keyboard is a wighted Casio Px110 digi piano. Im looking for a small 37key synth action/semi wighted keyboard for controling soft synths, Mostly for drum programing and lead part/one hand playing, its impossible to play a synth lead on wighted keys :) anyhow, insted of getting a something like a cheapo Maudio or Emu keyboard i thought about geting a used micron for about the same price of a new midi controler. anyone care to share his thoughts about this? Thanx, Tomer. |
Since it's hardly sending standard controller messages, beside Pitch Bend, Mod-Wheel and aftertouch only NRPNs, it's not exactly a perfect solution to control your Softsynths...
But it's a nice bass synth, so it might be a good addition anyway... |
Have you looked into Novation Remote 25s or whatever the bigger one is - perfect for softsynths...

The Micron is a pretty sweet synth. A friend of mine has the ION which I think is the same engine, only thing is the Micron is a bitch to program.
Have you checked out the Novation XIO synth? ![]() If I ever get around to buying a laptop, I'll probably get this as a controller/synth. Anyway, I reckon getting a synth as opposed to just a straight MIDI controller is a good option, especially as the build quality on the MAudio gear is not that great |
Novation Remote SL 25 ..Make sure its SL !!
or a Behringer BCR 2000 and/or Behringer BCF 2000 (But both these have no Playing keys) I am Stuck between these Two controllers myself (But if the Novation then with 61 keys)..Ummmmmmm I'm starting to sway towards the BCR...More knobs :-) |
BCR may have more knobs, but your going to have to set them up yourself mostly - dunno if sonar 6 does anything to help here.. it might - Behringer sure as hell dont. BCR/BCF are great controllers if you use reason - they have a mackie emulation mode as well - at least the BCF does, but as it doesnt have the HUD, then its usefulness is a bit limited as your never sure what is assigned to what.
I would suggest one of the Novation SL series - Novation do at least have an aim at being a good controller for soft synths. I dont think it does any kind of mackie sim mode, but potentially it could as it has the displays for it - if so - might make a good overall DAW controller as well. Downside - no motorised sliders - need a CME for that. General winge/rant - WTF cant one of these damn companies actually do a f****** complete job of this??? You know - a decent keyboard with displays and with motorised faders and led ring knobs... FFS!!! /end rant! |
