Anyone using Sonar 6?

Is it any good?

Audio quantise.. Hmm. Dunno if I want to quantise anything.

64 bit. No use to me.

Hmm. I'm still on Sonar 2. Maybe I need a manual to read on the shitter. Not had one for years.

But, honest. Any comments welcome. Cos I have got GEARLUST badly once again. Please, serious answers most appreciated.

xx Matt

im using it. i dont know if you are a new sonar user or want to upgrade... i paid the $175 because i love and understand cakewalk and want to support them. im not overwhelmed with the upgrade however.

*audio quantize: neat in the in-store demo, useless in real life.
*the vc64 is cool, but not blowing my mind
*the new interface/mixer re-design is nice
*overall it seems more stable and crash proof
*the new drummer plugin is rad. i like the presets even.
*vst plugins are kinda better, but not really.
*most relevant here, the TI doesnt work in it (for me) yet.

Ive done some mastering in it. Having various tracks with different compressors eqs and widening then exporting at 64bit. Using Voxengo r8brain to final dither/bit reduce the master. Sounds realy clean.

Damn it Old Vantaa Man!

Sonar is for bats...and dolphins.

Looking for a new sequencer, eh?

Why don't you test drive Tracktion 2? You can get a fully functional demo version from Mackie's website.

It's only a 21 MB file.

:)

Thanks lads

Soundsubs, whatsup with the vst? I've got the FXpansion vst wrapper on Sonar 2. Not the best admittedly. I've been using Cakewalk since Pro Audio 6 btw.

Thanks for the link to Traktion there Alex. I like its fresh look and it's clearly very powerful. ;)

You're welcome O.V.M. Tracktion is a great product. I can get things done with it quickly with good results. Enjoy!

I just got it, was forced to by my bandmate, he was tired of the white trash way I was doing everything.

The VST's are now "inside" Sonar, but they are still using the FXpansion wrapper on them (i can tell by opening the gui). it works, but its still not flawless. for example, it doesnt always know when a plugin should be a tempo plugin.

other than that the new 6.2 update is kinda slick, its got this new xray thing that makes plugins transparent. ACT is supposed to work better, although its also still not quite there yet.

friendly port naming is REALLY great. now instead of "RME Fireface 800 input 1-2" you can call it "FF800 Left1" or whatever you want.

highly recommended, still

heres the blurb about 6.2
