E=Mc2
 

I am drunk. Nova is on. A very good episode. They are discussing Einstein's theory E=MC2

Many years ago when I was in high school I choose Einstein's name out of a hat. The teacher walked around the classroom with a bunch of names in a hat. Each name was the name of a person who made some sort of impact on society. The area of impact was varied - science, business, philosophy etc. . . I by chance, chose einstein. We were instructed to do a presention on the person that we had chosen.

I went home. Looked in the enclopedia on Einstein and stumbled upon E=MC2.
Decided to do my presentation on that. Given my naivity, and my lack of study of physics (I believe my furthest education in the area of sciences at the time was just biology), I figured, what the hell, I'll just do a presentation on the equation E=MC2.

Anyways, I figured I was pretty good at math so I figured I would use math to explain it. So I figured out C (the speed of light) and squared it and calculated the speed of light squared in terms of miles per hours (to give every one a relative point of reference)

I then divided both sides of the equation by the speed of light squared.
This gave me E(Energy) divided by the speed of light squared = Mass divided by the speed of light squared.

Stated another way . . . All mass is just Energy (whose vibration is slowed down by the amount which is equal to the speed of light squared)

**note at the moment I am too lazy to look up the speed of light, but if memory serves me correct, it is something like 287,000,000 miles per second ** (give or take a few million miles)

Anyways, I went in to a lengthy discussion thereafter, on how mass was nothing more than just slowly vibrating energy and if you could produce a machine that could manipulate the speed at which the energy vibrates . . . you could do seemingly amazing things with that mass.

One example I gave was the transporter used on Star Trek.

Needless to say, I got a B- on the presentation. The teacher of the class accused me of "killing two two birds with one stone". She thought I had done this presentation for her class (which was English Literature) as well as for my Physics class. She was quite surprised when I explained to her that I wasn't taking physics at the time (nor had I done previously)

Anyways, the B- stood. Bah!

well . . .that's all. I probably should be down town with some some friends rather than sitting in my living room, contemplating an episode of nova.

Or perhaps it is time for another glass of whiskey.

btw, since I am being geeky and all, the original episode of Battlestar Galactica was on tonight. Man that series rocks!!

Sorry to be a stickler but surely dividing both sides of the equation E=MC2 by C2 would leave you with E/C2=M

Perhaps this is why you got a B?

Hehe your lucky mate - as new years day progressed it started to become obvious that I had sent quite a few drunken texts between about 7am and 8am while extremely wasted to various ex-s and potential girlfriends to be... Oops!

Thankfully nothing bad.. well not *too* bad - a few unprintables - one of which might have a good result ;) - one who is now a complete write off and one nutter who has been stalking me ever since - ugh!

Yes, but it is just another way of saying that same thing you could also say E/M=C2 or (E/M)^1/2=C.

That is funny. But the sad thing is I followed the post and understood and could relate to every bit of it. ;-)

could also be C=square root of (E/M) = same thing ledge wrote just written differently

btw, how is life in the big city treating you Merlot?

Crowded and busy! I definitely can only see myself living here for a few more years. I need my personal space and be able to drive out to the beach or the country. Here you have to hop on a train to do it. That isnt bad, but gets old quick!
Other than that, I love it. Nothing surprises me in this city, and I love the fact you can be yourself without having to worry about what people are going to say or think. Thanks for asking too!
