Slaves of technology
Modern man is bind to technology like Hollowcell's wife is bind on a strap-on in late night play time.
This week my cell phone's battery run out and I realised that I had forgotten to pack the recharger with me. Naturally no-one else had SonyEricsson phone, so I couldn't even borrow one from anyone. I've had cellphone with me for a decade and now I suddenly return to the days of line telephony - Or actually it's not even the days of line telephony as I don't have access to anykind of phone. Oh boy, I fell like I'm totally helpless. I loose a cell phone and it's a disaster. Now how the hell this can be possible? I've lived without cellphone for 13 years and coped well. The whole world coped well without cellphones! This got me thinking. What happens when computerised homes become a standard? An electricity blackout and everyone go crazy! You can't even enter or exit your home when the CPU is down. Want to enter another room? The door needs to be opened manually! Fancy a cup of automatically brewed coffee? NO CAN DO! We are all going to die! Well, at least that's what people will think then. The modern man is soon completely slaved by techology. Instead of AI taking over the control like in sci-fi, the man makes itself the slave voluntarily. Stupid man! I wonder does anyone had tried to call me. A SMS maybe? |
I know exactly what you mean. Once my internet connection was down for a week. First i felt completly amputated from the world but then i began doing other stuff and when the week was gone i had almost forgot about it. I think that mankind from nature is good at adapting to new enviroments (also virtual enviroments). We feel that we can´t live without this and that but in short time we adapt to the new situation and live on. Maybe not such a bad ability

Whenever technology allows me to become a cyborg I am going for it!

That actually made me LOL there Juho! Kids asking me why now. Err.. Well..
Mobile phones are indispensable these days. I even insist that my kids (11 & 9) always have them with them whenever they go out. I'd find it hard to live without a washing machine, but as for the TV - crap. We'd certainly be screwed without electricity though. |

I think it would be fairly easy to live with minimal amount of household electronics, although it would be a little laborious. P.s. If anyone of you has a bread machine, raise your hand and I'll come to beat you to death with your bread machine. Owning such a laughable piece of junk is a crime. Quote:

I'd better get ready then. I have a Panasonic bread machine and it's worth its weight in gold. Makes perfect dough for bread, pizza and pulla, though I never use the bake function. I'd rather have a Braun 1200w food processor though. And, yes HC. I can vouch for Juho. He's a real country boy. Albeit a country boy that wears 4-inch studded platform boots. |

Food processor? That sounds like it creates some synthetic nutrition mass. Soylent green - It's my kind of people. Quote:
