Can I just connect the virus to my laptop with the usb and stream midi info into it and record audio back to cubase with just the one usb lead at the same time?

Also do I need a fancy sound card to use the virus or will my current one that runs cubase alright be ok?

Yeh - that works - thats the way its intended to be used.

As for sound card - depends what your definition of fancy is.
