Cubase 5 unvailed
 

...my initial reaction was NOOOOOOOOO because i've just bought a copy of cubase 4 :> (Should arrive on Wednesday morning...)

But then after some reading on Steinberg's site it seems I will be able to get the new version for 20 buckazoids so that's not so bad :>

The new features look great! If that pitch correction thing has some decent sound quality it's going to be seriously awesome..

I missed the grace period bought it too early :( i gotta pay 260 Euro for an upgrade, I hope they release an update for Cubase 4 to enable us PC/Cubase 4 users to use the new sidechain feature in TIOS 3.0

Bummer dude. Photoshop the receipt?

£434.00 to upgrade from cubase SX2 what a rip off. The only thing that interests me in this upgrade is the pitch correction thingy or to be more precise the pitch to midi thing, im actualy very good at humming a wicked bassline far better than actualy playing it on the keyboard, the thought of being able to record my voice doing the bass then converting it to midi note data then playing my VIRUS TI, sounds very appealing to me, so i'm just curious to how good this thing would be at doing this, has anyone any ideas or views on this.

Many people who are still having issues with version 4 (not me) are not going to be best pleased about a new version coming out before they fixed the last one. :confused:

Agreed. Steinberg need to learn to fix the problems with their last release before they churn out a new one.

I've made the jump from a dubiously attained Cubase SX3, to a nice purchased version of Cubase 5 Educational (same as Cubase 5 but half the price), and it is performing exceptionally well. One thing I would recommend is backing up all the VST effect units because quite a few get dumped out and if you have a project that uses them, you will be stuffed. The interface feels better, VSTs running smoother, the REVerence is pretty intense and its definitely more stable for me. But a DAW's a DAW, you're only as good as the music and ideas you put into it. Personally if I didn't use my PC for other interests, I may have gone MAC and Logic. Always felt it was a tiny step up from Cubase in layout and intuitive programming.

Been using version 5 (studio edition) for a while now.

The arbitrary restriction on mixdown with external devices is EXTREMELY irritating, but eh, you only do a final mixdown once per song, and it's work-around-able.

I get crashes sometimes when exiting the program, but apart from that it seems very stable.

I have to say I really am not fond of the routing interface in it at all. A friend showed me a screenshot of the way routing works in Logic and it looks SO much better. Oh well.

I am still hardcore n00b with the program to be fair, Tricky I'm afraid I have no idea about your midi whistling capture thingy. I will take a look sometime and let you know what it's like :>
