I need a rack..

I need to buy a rack, but I am unsure of what to go for. I wondered if any of you guys can help by suggesting one?

10 or 12u. Needs to have detachable "armour" plates for safe transport. Must have reasonable frontal clearance as one of the devices going in it sticks out a bit at the front:

In addition a valve-based distortion unit will live at the top of the rack so in its operating state (ie with armour plates removed) it must have reasonable airflow.

Most of all, it must look absolutely drop-dead sexy. It's destined to be used in an industrial/electronic/metal band. My favourite colour is black, and price is not an issue.

Can anyone halp ? :>

wewt :> Ok got a plan in place now. nspcases.co.uk are going to custom build one for me. The vocalist from my band is going to do artwork on it with stencils, dayglow (UV reactive) spraypaint, etc. Bar codes, nordic runes, etc.. who knows what else :>

Racks are the most non-sexual thing ever. With this one, I aim to break away from that stereotype. =)

I hope to soon have a nice contribution for the studio pr0n thread..

While we are on Annike's rack ;) Does anyone know where I can get a custom made case, for a couple of synths and controller? I basically, move around a lot, so a nice sturdy touring case!
:p Sorry Annike for stealing your topic, lol.

Try nspcases.co.uk I guess. They're custom-building one for me, I'm sure they'd do the same for you :>

And lo! The prophecy was fulfilled ^_^

Quote:

Hi Annikk,

Price on the 12u shockmount case is £402.50. Inclusive of VAT and delivery.
Case would be supplied with a wheel board that can easily be unbolted by 4 x m8 bolts.
The wheel board will have 4 heavy duty wheels (2 braked) and is constructed of 18mm plywood (painted black)
Price is based on a depth of 580mm of the centre section, lids will be made deep enough to house the front handles (need this dimension to confirmed).

Case will have 4 handles, 8 latches, standard flight case 9.5mm hexaboard panels (birch plywood with phenolic paint finish) - picture attached.

We can also supply vented blanking panels which will keep the front looking smart but still allow airflow. (1u and 2u available)
1u's are £6 and 2u's are £8.

Leadtime is about 2 weeks from order.
Any questions please ask.

Kind Regards
Flight Case Pro

Lock up your gears baby!!!

Order has been placed. Lead time is 2 weeks so I expect to receive the undecorated rack around about the middle of February. ^_^

This has now been built, spraypainted, and had gear screwed into it. It lives on my desk and sits there looking awesome. :>

It is beautifully constructed. My only complaints are minor; the nuts provided were extremely stiff and very challenging to get into the rack rail holes. Also the rail holes themselves are not very evenly spaced - the gaps between each hole are seemingly random sizes.. Which makes it a bit tricky to get all the gears lined up flush with each other. These things I overcame pretty quickly though.

Pics inc to the Studio Pr0n thread soon..

Just wanted to tell you that the Thermionic Culture Vulture doesn't need as much ventilation as you might think.
You can easily get in contact with Thermionic if you doubt me, they are very friendly (I asked them the same thing because these are pricey units).

I have several Valve units so some of them are "blocked" and I have never had a problem, in fact some would argue hot Tubes are preferable.
It might reduce the Tube lifespan slightly but they can be replaced easily.
Also the newer version which I presume you have has much better casing design than my old version allowing for greater airflow.
All my racks have about 5mm space inbetween the units anyway, which imo is plenty.

It's a 12u rack with only 7u of gear in it (the rest is taken up with blanking plates). So there is plenty of space for ventilation anyway :>
