Optimum setup?

Hi All

New here as I have today received my first Virus and have to say am well buzzing still. I am currently waiting for Logic to arrive as I will be setting both my dual G5 and Macbook pro up as workstations.

I would like to know as a starting setup how would you suggest I go about connection my equipment?
I have the following:
TI Rack
M Audio 49e
Mac G5 with standard audio card
Outboard amp with monitors
Beringher mixing desk (from back when I used to have a lot of outboard gear)
As well as this list I have the VST's, Reason etc which I have been using for the past 6 or so years after selling my Supernova, Akai sampler and a few other bits.

I have downloaded the recent software today for the Virus which I have installed confirmed it connects with the Virus but I am unsure how to route audio into the mac and have it play via the sound card to the external amp. Can any of you more knowledgeable folk help me out please?

Thanks

Mike

P.S. Still buzzing with the purchase!

Oh yes, one further thing.

I have no way of transferring sound banks until I get Logic, so assumed I could do it via Soundiver, the only problem is, I cant work out how to install the thing. I have downloaded it but it gives me a file telling me to 'move content into Mididevice plugins" I have no idea where this is so as yet cant transfer any of the many banks I have downloaded.

Before setting up your equipment... I would get to know your new beast over the weekend. I would plug your midi keyboard into your virus and get to know the synthesis engine before jumping into the fire and tackling all the technical things that lie ahead of you. Read the Howard's tutorial and start designing some beautiful and strange sounds, and then what you have in front of you will start to sink in. And wow... you will sink in deep.

Your Virus will become your new best friend/girlfriend if you sit down and give her some one on one time from the get go. Since it seems your new to hardware and the sequencing methods involved, you would benefit greatly from making some patches from scratch. GOing through all your menus, and learning your Virus as a synth, before starting to use it as a plugin.

Thanks for the reply man, I understand what youre saying and I am indeed sat here right now going through the menus, tweaking and playing and OMG the thing is an absolute beast... Makes my old Supernova II seem lame in fact it eclipses all of the other gear I have had over the years.

I would like some feedback on setup though as its the Ti part that has thrown me a little, I mean I used to have everything routed into my mixer then into the mac, the midi was handled via an interface and it all worked perfectly. I have to admit this was back in os 8/9 days on the mac so I am out of touch with music in system 10.

Am I right in thinking the audio and midi is all handled via the USB on the Ti?
I did have the USB connected before and it shows up in the system pref pane as a sound option both in and out. I selected the Ti in and optical out to my amp but got no sound.

The audio outputs on the TI are 192 k 24 bit, the USB audio is 44.1k 16 bit. If you'd rather have the ease of USB audio over the sound quality of the analog outputs, it's a much easier setup. Plug in your usb cable and go. Plug 4 Outputs of the Virus to your mixer, and your golden. Use 2 outputs as the Virus Outputs and 2 as soundcard outputs... The Virus as a soundcard is stereo only. Plug the Aux outputs on your mixer into the Virus in 1 +2 for recording the analog outs, using Virus for FX, and using Atomizer. Have Fun!
