Does the Virus TI line interpret breath control?
This is a simple question really. Does the Virus TI accept midi input from breath control? I have to give up my Yamaha VL70-m and I need something for my EWI4000s.

bump.
Anyone? I guess I have to try it myself. |
The Virus TI hardware doesn't have a breath control input jack, if that's what you mean.
'Breath' is listed in the mod matrix as a source. I'm not familiar with the Akai unit, but it looks like it has midi out. If it send BC (CC#2): http://www.tweakheadz.com/midi_controllers.htm then you just have to select 'breath' as the source, and assign what you want to modulate. If it sends something else (unlikely), then you may have to re-assign controller #'s within your DAW program, if it supports that function. |
Thanks for the reply. I could assign the breath control to OSC volume, but this would not be the best use for breath control. As with wind instruments, letting off the breath or breathing stronger into the instrument not only controls volume but also the timbre of the sound. This is nicely programmed into the VL70-m and the stock sounds of the EWI4000s.

You can assign it to any of the 'destinations' in the mod matrix, such as filter cutoff, resonance, envelope stages, and so forth.
You can also assign it multiple destinations at the same time. The TI is a very different synth from the VL70m though, so the results will also be very different. |
