temporarily disable knob output
 

erm, this is so basic I'm embarrassed to ask...

Is there a button I can hold before I turn a knob so that I'll just see the knob value without outputting any change to the synth engine?

Most of my synths have this, Access can't have forgotten it(?)

Isnt there a global config option for changing knob type behaviour - Jump, Snap, or Rel? Have a play with those/consult ze manual.

Use Snap - It shows up as a little dial and displays how far you have to go to reaching the saved preset settings - after tweaking past or before that point youll gain control over it.

I've checked out all of the knob modes and already use snap usually. It's just not quite the same... I often find myself checking the midi values of my knobs to hand-enter those CC#'s into my sequencer. If I've already "snapped" the value of that knob, I can't check exactly where that knob's set.

It would be cool if the undo button at least displayed the parameter and value it was undoing back to after you pressed it (hint hint).

I'm pretty flexible about altering my workflow, but I can't find a solution so far.

The way I normally do this is from within Virus Control.
You mouse-over the parameter you want to check, and in the little text window thingy at the bottom it shows you current value of that parameter, and next to it in brackets is the value of the "original" patch.

If you want to do it without VC, I think the easiest method is to go menu diving till you come to the page with the parameter you're looking for.

I've only launched VC once; I guess it deserves some more exploration (I'm trying to get away from the soft-synth feel in general).

Good call on the menus. Learning exactly where to find everything quickly will be a huge help in the long run anyway.


But the little geek on my shoulder interrupts "how about unique sysex cmd's to bring up each menu page?"...

I would recommend Virus Control. I use it for little things like finding an existing value, like you mentioned. For basically all of the programming I just do it on the synth itself. It doesn't feel like using a softsynth at all.
