303 Clones, which one do you dig???
OK, I need advice on one more item for my studio project. I feel like in order to put together the kind of music I do, a 303 clone is a must have. Being totally honest with myself I have come to terms that, even though I think I am able to come close to replicating the sound, it still is not spot on enough. SOOOO, that being said I would ask that those who read this thread weigh in on which 303 clone has the best bang for your buck.
Thanks again Everybody, :laRs : Nobl1v1on  |
I am a huge fan of audiorealism's ABL.

I am using a x0xb0x for some time now...one of the best (if not the best) 303 clones available.
You can make your own kit...or buy one....and is even editable with customised firmware. Check : http://www.ladyada.net/make/x0xb0x/ or http://www.acidvoice.com/index.htm Here is how mine x0xb0x looks : ![]() |
I use TN-3034 which you will find on the KVRAudio website I believe along with the Drum machine emulator TN-909.
There is a fantastic patch available for Reaktor 5 if you have it which is another great emu of the classic. A lot of them are hard to define but you canna beat true analogue squelches.. |
I got the Future Retro Revolution. I am very pleased with it.
Not sure if it is that easy to get a x0xb0x. Last I heared, they were out of parts. www.future-retro.com http://www.future-retro.com/revolutionoverview.html I like the design. The sound engine is analog. The effects are DSP. It got CV in and out. Gate Out. It can work as a converter for older hardware, so you can use midi to trig them. You can use the sequencer to trigger other synthesizer. Comparing TB-303 with the Revolution. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SkALw4qZbRE I did order this synthesizer from USA. I live in Norway. It took 4 days to get it. |

Or have a look at:
http://www.acidlab.de/ The Bassline2 is really good, has a sequencer like the 303 and is a real analog. Fantastic price IMO. |
I've got the first Revolution and it is indeed nice but I think it still lacks the magic the TB has for actually creating tasty sequences.
I am expecting a Bassline2 next week and can tell you my thoughts between the two. I have a TB as well but am looking for something to play out with as I am paranoid about breaking or getting it thieved. There is something that the Revo sequencer is just missing even though the sounds are great. I can get some nice fluid in the sequences it just takes longer than with the 303. It just seems to happen with the 303. The Din out is great and I use it along with the CV/Gate to control my 303 and my 202. |
Well I went the R2, and I am VERY pleased. The sound is really on point, the sequencer is more intuitive than I imagined. I kind of was thinking the whole circular thing was kitchy, but it works really well. Stoked on it, way stoked. >>8-D

I have the first Revolution and it's nice. Are there any differences between the first and the second revision, soundwise?
