I searched, but couldn't find any answer:

I'm looking to reset edited patches in a multi via midi (on a rack XL).
When I'm playing live, I'm editing individual patches within a multi, and after a few bars, I'd like them to come back to their original state. Since the virus doen't understand CC121 (that is the most f***ing stupid thing), how could I reset them without having a sound cut (program change for the same multi, or the "compare" function - very tricky with stressed/shaky fingers in a live situation)?

Did anyone think about that?

Are you sure that it doesn't understand the Reset All Controllers message? I could have sworn that I've successfully reset some controller values that way.

Many of the Virus's parameters don't correspond to MIDI control changes, so even if the Reset All Controllers message works, it would not reset the entire patch to the original state.

The only workaround I can think of is to load the patch into two multi parts and do a channel change from the controller to play the original, unmodified part. Problem is that this only works once, so it's not a very good solution.

For the confirmation of not receiving CC121, it's on page 183 of the manual -in the midi implementation chart.
And it's definitely a big no, even if I tried (with values=0, 1, etc...)
CC121 would actually reset most of the commonly used things (filter cutoff, res, env..), which would be ok with me. The implemented aftertouch message, I rarely modify "live", only when I'm creating the patches. I tend to use the Modmatrix to tweak them, if required on the fly.

The idea of having 2 identical patches in the same multi is a good one, thanks.
But it would involve switching midi channels, and tracks in the sequencer (my setup is pretty basic: 1 track = 1 part), not mentioning that I fill a multi pretty fast.

The ideal thing would be to be able to flush the edit buffer with one command...

Ok, nothing related to the initial subject, but:
ANyone knows if it's possible to replace the knobs of a virus C (rackXL).
It's becoming unusable... And I'm not a big fan of remotes (still I do have a BCR2000): you do have to go to another encoder for every parameter.
Anyway, pretty much gave up using the virus as a synth, but I somtimes use the ext in, and the filters in cascade.

I'm not afraid of soldering a few connections, but anyone's got ref for the appropriate parts?

I broke two keys one time on my ti kb. And Matt sent me them. The XL rack has been out of production for a while, maybe they still have parts for it...

What's the issue? Are your pots crackling?

You can contact access and ask where the nearest repair facility is, message them and see if they can fix it.

As Iand mentions, try contacting Access first. Otherwise contact Access' spares company at SynthesizerService (based in Germany, although can speak English).

Send them a quick mail. They kindly sent me 4 standard pots (not rotary encoders in my case, as it was for an Indigo) for replacing loose ones in the past, as shown [here!]

You know what would be frickin wicked, is a "reset morph" midi CC. You'd tweak up your patch all nice and juicy, then turn this knob on your midi controller baaaack to zero, and all of the parameters you've modified will interpolate back to their starting values. Wheee!

I guess there'd need to be another variable where you set what happens to the discrete parameters. But even if it was just the continuous CC's, that could make some siiick sounds!

You/I could hack that together in Max/MSP pretty easily I imagine...
