Problem recording using analog input 1
 

How do you record audio using analog Input 1 in cubase? for external synths/guitar/Audio from Cubase

I have tried using VST connections TAB in cubase and selecting the virus inputs on the audio channel but this does not seem to work? I have managed to get the audio into the virus and hear it and effect it but the problem comes trying to get the audio into or back into cubase analog input 1?
