Virus Sidechain compression with ableton

Hey,

So I've got all my tracks set up in ableton and I want to apply side chain compression to one of my midi tracks...how do i do that? I seem only to be able to put the compressor on my Virus track (considering its only an audio effect)...but this will apply the effect to all my tracks not just the one i want...how do i get around this?

Cheers,

Angus

your virus has 3 virtual outputs (USB1 - 3). you need to assign each patch to the appropriate output and create audio tracks for them. that way, you can compress the bassline/pads and leave the lead unaffected (I'm assuming that's what you want).

Yes, thats the way it goes. Only... If you want to sidechain another midi channel where the compressor should have a little different settings... you gonna be running out of audio channels very soon :| .

An easier solution to the routing through audio tracks is to just use your normal midi track and add an "External Instrument". This way you don't need to have extra audio tracks.
