bass drop sound

does anyone know how to make that bass dropping sound usually at the beginning of a break? is it a kick with delay?

can you please give an example (mp3 or youtube, position [mins:secs])...
One needs to hear it before telling you how to create it.

I would say the best way to get that kind of bass drop sound is by using the filter envelope to create a pitch drop in an oscilator, very easy to program on the virus.

The tone is probably good enough with a sine wave, maybe saturate it a bit, then employ the Pitch to filter envelope, or through the matrix, then tweak the amount, keep the Attack at 0, and bringing up the Decay will create the pitch drop lenght.

awesome, exactly what I was looking for!

Let me ask, do you mean assign the filter envelope to the pitch or "pitch to filter envelope"? And, won't you have to use a very fast decay with a very low sustain level to get this done? Just asking to see if I'm on the right track. Thanks.

Mmm..no, the decay for that drop sound is relatively slow, definitely not fast, otherwise itll sound more like a kickdrum sound. The sustain could well be low, it should certainly be lower than the decay, in fact it could be 0 without a problem if you only want the pitch drop.

Sorry if phrased confusingly, but yes, I did mean, use the filter envelope to control the pitch of the oscillator.
