Confused by Multi

I am confused by the Multi mode and how to use it. I think that Multi allows me to overlay multiple single patches into one new Multi patch. Is this true? I created a new Multi patch, and I assigned a patch to Part 1 and another to Part 2. I turned both to on and set the volume of each to the maximum level. However, when I press a key, I hear only Part 1 playing. Also, how do I edit these patches in Multi mode?

I think you may have forgotten to put both patches on MIDI channel 1

I did not know that was necessary, so I definitely did not change the midi channels. Thank you!

Confusing question, when you say you press a key and you hear only one patch playing, I dont see why you would have both parts playing at the same time when you press a key. Thats more like creating a multi layer or so... Which is not the function of the multi mode.
