Virus Control Maps JP8080
ive recently had a huge upgrade process in my studio
getting lots of new equipment and a new system etcetc of which inc a TI im about halfway through the manual was just wondering if anyone could shed some light on the virus control thing will i be able to fully control my 8080 via the TI does anybody on here do this, fully mapped etc? many thanks Akira Kayosa |
Viurs Control is only a user interface for the controls on the TI, not for any other synths.
The only way you could control another synth via the knobs on the Virus, is with MIDI. But you`d have to find corresponding CV`s for the controls you want on the JP. Let`s say the Cutoff parameter on the JP is cv 74, and the cutoff cv on the Virus is 70. But, the cv for Resonance on the virus is 74, you would control the cutoff on the JP with your reso-knob on the virus via midi. Usually, or at least as far as i`ve seen on my different synths, these values are not always the same. I would recommend getting a hold of a Midi Implementation chart for both synths. The way i do it is with automation on my sequencer. |
i was under the impression you can create a template within the VSTi part of the TI and Control other outboard gear like ie the 8080?
least i got this impression from where im at in the manual anyhow |
It would`ve been pretty sweet though, considering the TI has a bunch of knobs, it would make things easier to control. Not having to move between synths all the time.
But then again, automation is usually the way to go. Instead of first recording it, then use time refining it in the automation track afterwards. |
i think it can be done
im not in about the hardware side of things via the TI, knobs etc im on about inside the vsti side, you can make a control map for other hardware units in your setup |
I'll write you one for $.....not cause I'm a dick but because i'm poor and really busy!

What you really want is a Novation SL MkII Zero. You can map it to control both the TI and the Roland at the same time.

So you could just buy a Novation keyboard that supports Automap and use those knobs to drive everything, including the Virus. The only thing I will say about the particular unit I have is that the knobs have incremental feedback to them (you feel notches as you turn them), which I prefer smooth turning knobs like the TI, or like a mod wheel feels.. not a big deal though. My unit has drum pads instead of faders (I'd rather have the faders & I never use the drum pads). Knob feedback may vary with other units? I'm not sure. Absolutely, Automap is amazing. I use the Nocturn with it, exclusively dedicated to the control of softsynths. No conflicts whatsoever with the many other controllers I have (2x BCF2000's, Tranzport, Alphatrack, Kore II controller, MPD18, Korg NanoKontrol and all my MIDI keyboards and USB keyboard controllers.)
