How to make the virus louder?
 

So I have noticed that all of the sounds the ti2 is producing are on the quiet side...I am running my ti2 straight to my monitors from output 1 ...when I play a track with all virus parts I find that I have to turn down the drums a lot, and if I open any soft synths my ears get blown away. (Same with if I play something out of itunes or anything else like that). It seems like the virus just isn't letting me get any legit levels without maxing things out to the point that I have 0 headroom.

I am thinking that this is a noob problem with a noob solution.

Most Soft synths are loud by default. I always find I need to turn them down loads. Not jst in comparison to my virus. Check the master out meter on your daw and I bet it's in the red.

Dont forget you have the master volume on the virus, the master volume for each part in VC and then there is another volume knob in vc, I think it's in the osc section.

If you want the virus louder stick a compressor on the virus out insert in your daw and boost the output. You will find that if you do this a lot when your track is finished you will be way in the red on your daws master output. meter.

I'm really good about keeping everything out of the red; definitely keeps the mix more balanced and controlled...

Yeah, I'm guessing I need to crank up all the volumes in the osc section, I don't think I've done that.

Compressor sounds like a good idea, also...though I'm not extremely skilled in using them. I guess that is the next task:D

Definately learn about compressors & limiters, if your compressor is not also a limiter, you should find one to use in conjunction with the compressor. I use Maximus by Imageline which does both & I haven't found one that I really liked better, although some of the softsynths I use have their own so occasionally I'll use that if what I'm doing is limited to one instrument.

There are some words regarding low audio in the setup manual for TI on page 23. It seem like this is a problem, expecially when using the Virus in conjunction with other VST instuments.

When considering this further, its very strange that Access Music recommends this solution; to actually lower the sound from other software producers. What about setting the output of the audio track to a dedicated sub bus that raise the level 8dB and outputs to Master? This recommendation was given to me in another forum?

Are you using balanced (3-core) or unbalanced (2-core) cables from the TI?

I am using speaker cables as used to plug in a PA speakers... not sure about the core terminology?:confused:

1/4" speaker cables = bad

Use balanced cables (tip/ring/sleeve).

I'm glad we're on this topic because when I play my keyboard with my band (unrelated to virus) I will hook it up to the PA with whatever quarter inch cable is available (speaker cable, guitar cable, whatever). The guitarist is my band swears there is a difference between guitar cables/speaker cables, but I can't tell a difference...

So what makes them different? What is "bad" about using speaker cables? What brand balanced cables would you recommend?
