Playing the Keyboard while in Cubase

Hi Folks

I have a really dumb question but I'll ask it anyway because I can't seem to find the answer :D

I find the quickest way to create new sounds is by using the Virus plugin in Cubase but the problem I have is that I don't know how to trigger the sounds from the keyboard while in Cubase?

I'm doing pads and strings so I'd like to be able to play chords with one hand while tweaking the sound with the other. Is this possible?

Thanks in advance!

I have a similar problem and searching was not able to turn up a solution. I would like to audition patches in the VST and play some runs on the keyboard. Currently this seems impossible. The only way to hear the patches as far as I can tell is to set up some MIDI phrase, loop it over and over in the DAW, and then switch patches in the VST. Problem is, after you hear that phrase too many times, you might as well be getting a red hot poker in the ears. I did a search and this was the only post I could find that was relevant.

Hi Beachyb

Luckily I just found out the answer to this last night. I downloaded a lot of new sound banks and really needed to get this sorted to test the new sounds.

Well I use Cubase 3 SX and it's really obvious if you think about it

After loading up the Virus in the Instrument List (see attachment 1) you simply set the In/ Out of for the track to be the Virus on the Instrument list (see attachment 2).

I also had to switch on monitoring (in track controls) to hear anything (see attachment 3).

Hope that helps!

Thanks - will give that a go :)
