Wavering pitch in Ableton Live 8
I have a project in Ableton Live 8 with a couple channels of my Virus TI being sequenced as an external instrument. While I play the track the patches playing back from the synth are pitch wavering up and down like a warped record. I don't know what caused this. I have replaced the patch with other presets and the same issue happens with the presets. Any ideas?

I have Live 8.2 and Ti KB mk1 both work ok with eachother except the sync loses stability when using ARP's at the start of a run in session mode.
Like you It just occasionally warbles but very rarely. Only when stressed to with too many patches and probably way too much delay or reverb. i do concider it to be stable with Live8 at the moment. i basically leave Live mode permanently on in VC. And use Live8's track delays to get sync to work against audio clips or VSTi's (the audio clips at a + value and VC at zero). That works better than having live off/latency compensation-on, which causes the USB direct midi driver to wrongly place midi recorded notes. (well known problem - the reason why live is called 'live' mode). the track delays are roughly set to the tascam audio cards input latency at about 2mSecs. but i often set at 4mSecs to give a natural feel. one of the problems with the TI ARP sync is there is no way to manually offset the sync clock that enters the VC from Live8 unlike MIDI clock offset which works well with MIDIed synths. So there is always some kind of delay. The track midi offset causes the TI to start sooner than Audio clips and therefore by the time it has travelled in to the PC thru VC then the audio will have just started. it does work well on my pc and is stable. you may be getting usb jitter on the port that the virus is plugged in to. try a seperate usb card to an onboard one. check your pc out with DPlatency software (see if theres a spike) if there is then thats your problem. One thing i would check out is, have you any really long release times in your envelopes? from other parts left behind previously or on the played parts themselves? the TI hates long release times with an abandon. it mucks it up. and the sound warps as a result. also, are you sending the audio to other live tracks and getting two audio mixer channels to play the sound? that can causes phase issues. have you left any of live8s effects on in the mix that the ti could go thru? i know that sounds silly but live8's cross channel mixing is buggy so switch effects off in other mixer channels. the virus ti needs a pc that has no audio hang ups. and that means totally none at all. |
