Ableton Live sends unwanted preset edit messages to KC
Hi, new member here, so forgive me if this is a well known issue.
This is a problem I've had for a while I have an Access Virus KC linked to Live 9 via midi. Problem was also happening in Live 8 Whenever I am playing the Virus through Live MIDI, Live keeps changing the patch settings. What happens: - I choose a preset on the Virus. The name and number of the preset shows in the Virus readout (e.g. G40). -Then, something happens that makes Live send a signal to theVirus that modifies the patch. Sometimes it can be an action on my part. For example, I load a M4L device. Instantly the Virus readout shows that the patch has changed (it now says g40 - the cap changing to a small letter is how Virus shows it has received an edit to the patch and the sound is different - e.g. a filter envelope setting will be different) - BTW in Live but there is no record of the change in the clip (if I open the Live clips envelope tab, no automation changes show). Anyone know what is going on? |
Yes, very annoying thing for me also for a LOT of time.
Only recently i found a solution for it !!! You should use a midi filter before your Virus, analog or digital. In case of analog i have a Midi Solutions merger that solved me the problem. But if you have Max for Live you can use that free device: http://www.maxforlive.com/library/de...77/midi-filter In this device you turn off the data you don't want to be modified. Let me know if you're happy now ;) |
Sounds great. Does the M4L device just sit in the MIDI track that is sending signals to Live? I will check it out.
Thanks! |
OK, this has NOT fixed the problem.
- I load the M4 L MIDI filter - It DOES filter out notes etc, even program changes etc BUT when I load / unload any device into the active track in Live it causes a program change in the Virus What I noticed is that momentarily something flashes in the readout screen, right where a note would flash if it were receiving a midi note. But it's not a note, it is a round circle almost like a clock face. Disappears too quickly for me to figure out what it is. Is this a Live issue, or a Virus issue? Any one come across this before? |
When you create a midi track for the Virus you must select your midi control surface from Live 'midi input from' menu.
You got errors because you have 'ALL INS' input. check it out |
I just checked. I don't seem to have All Ins selected. I have my Virus control surface selected.
|
Try to use a midi keyboard as input; select it and do the things you told; check if problem disappear.
If you still have patch changing it's a Virus with keyboard issue. I encourage you to ask both Access and Ableton support and let us know the answers. I have a Virus C desktop so the bahaviour is different. |
Have you solved the problem?
