I just signed up and expect to find some good advice here
I'm a guitar player, so got a bit of learning to do
but first of all, i need to get my Virus kb back up and running
haven't powered it up in years and yup
it doesn't power up

Yeah, I'm going to take a peek inside later today. I could not find a DIY tutorial on the forums here, but I did read something about replacing the 100µF 25V cap, so I was thinking of giving that a try. If anyone can give me some pointers on how to replace the PSU that would be great as well. I also found a Virus recap kit on evilbay ... sheesh I hope it's going to be an easy fix, haven't used the synth in 5 years, but it was safely stored, it worked fine last time I played it (but that was indeed 5 years ago).

OK, so I took out the old PSU, something is rattling inside, so I guess it's the culprit
the caps all look fine to me, no bulging ones
now where to get a replacement PSU for the kB
halp !

another update : I just tested the old PSU, it is still working fine
I crammed it open yesterday and a tiny bit of solder fell out
I'm putting it back this evening and hopefully my KB will be up and running again ...
also changed the internal battery while I was at it
and got rid of all the dust bunnies inside

still not working
the display lits up, that's it, but it shows nothing
no LEDS
bummer

oh well, I'm going to take out the MB and start soldering caps then
wish me luck

thanks, it is fixed (made a separate thread about it)
yesterday evening, I re-assembled it and
now it's up and running again
after 5 years of hibernation
spent an eveninng and good part of the night revisiting the Virus kB, twisting knobs and pushing buttons
dang, what a great sounding, tactile, intuitive synth it is
happy camper again
