TI2 Darkstar woes

My beloved TI2 Darkstar is misbehaving. I still use Virus Control (it still works because I refuse to update to anything newer than Mojave on my Mac) and, until yesterday, everything was great. However, yesterday it stopped working. The BMP light flickers on and off instead of keeping any sort of time, and no sound is produced, either via USB / Virus Control nor the audio outputs. If I remove the USB cable, the BPM light keeps time and sound returns, but Virus Control nor USB MIDI of course no longer works.

I _believe_ The Virus TI I had back in 2012 had a similar issue with the USB port, and I had to drive 6 hours to the nearest repair center to have them fix it. I don't remember the specifics back then, but I _think_ it just refused to even show up at all on the USB bus, so this current issue with my TI2 might be different.

Is this current USB issue something others have experienced? This was working last week, and my system hasn't changed (still running Mojave, no other drivers have been installed in the last week).
